Is it normal that my dog likes to run from me?

Hi,i have a Shih-Tzu purebred,i've had it since it was about 6 weeks old and i got it from a good friend.
Even though i feed it alot and am very kind to it she runs from me,and im very caring to her, she also runs from my little brother and hides with mom or dad,is this normal? Please post a comment if you have an idea about why she does this.

Try giving it treats (Bones, dog chocolate -heres a strange one, my dog LOVES carrots) and cuddle it a lot more.

If she runs away outside she wants chased so don't run after her! Keep her on a long leash so she doesn't get lost.

If she's hiding from you indoors it may mean she doesn't like you or your brother's energy. You two may be arguing with each other or your tone may be aggressive, and you are scaring her. My dog won't go near my son (14) when he's in a bad mood which makes him even more angry! They want to feel safe at home so you need to be calm if you want her to settle near you.

  • Some dogs can tell the difference between children and adults. Seems like your dog feels safe only with adults right now, but you can change that.

Give her time and patience. Show her that she has nothing to fear. Start taking her for daily walks. Don't give her treats unless she has EARNED it by coming to you or obeying a command.
It could take a couple of months for her to come around, but be patient.

if you and your brother are only kids/teens, that could be why.
a doberman down my dads street acts a similar way when approached by younger people.

  • put the dog on a long lead, very long. like about 20 feet of rope. call the dog and if it doesnt come pull it in gently and give it a treat every time. after a while you wont need the rope then later you wont need the treats

most dogs like to be chased in my experience... but for obvious reasons I hope she comes when she is called.

If this is outside or if it is just playing then that's fine, if anything it is the sign if a strong bond with you.

If the dog whines or barks at you, or runs to somebody else for security, then this is not a good thing.

Alternatively, it could be something as simple as a minor injury in the dog, such as thorn in its foot, which you touch by accident, or something along those lines. I can't really answer without a bit more detail as to what the running consists. Sorry!

@dom108 She's usually inside and she doesent whine or bark, she simply runs away and i check her for any injurys every day when i give her a bath so it cant be that, and she's the runt of the litter so could it be the fact im just big and she's scared?
