Is it normal that my fart killed my fish?

I bought a new fish and when I took him out of the bag I accidentally let out a fart. When I came back 30 seconds later to check on him he was floating belly-up in the tank. Is this normal?

    I once farted while I was in a huge group of people and it stank so much this one chick freaked out and everyone started to gag. I walked away going "Oh, that's disgusting! Who farted?!" but secretly I was laughing inside. True story.
