Is it normal that my mom got angry at me for no reason for this situation?

Yesterday my mom and I were at a shop and this lady was insulting my mom and wanting to fight her and I was like "Mom, save your energy she isn't worth it" and then my mom goes around threatening to slap me in a public shop and the lady insulting my mom goes telling her to go back to her own country so then my other response to my mom was " Responding to her isn't going to do you any favors " but then she still got mad at me for it.

All I really wanted was for my mom to listen to me and to listen to her own advice.

    It's easier for your mom to give you advice than to take that same advice herself. This seems kinda hypocritical, but I think it's rather common. Most things are easier sad than done. That racist woman just really triggered your mom!

    Most people who get angry misdirect their anger towards another person.

    Your mom is likely under a lot of stress (and perhaps moreso that day); and she was eaisly upset and agered by things that you had noting to do with.

    You just addes that straw that broke her self control - and she lashed out at you. It's more about everything else that's going on than it is about you. You were just the trigger - and she dumped on you way out of proportion to what the real issues are that are making her life difficult.

    Your mom, when she cools down (if she has the time to cool down); will recognize that she treated you out of proportion - and will likely feel guilty. It's something all of us humans have done at some point in our lives.

    Please learn to do better when you grow up. Learn to direct your anger towards what is actually making you angry, and not to the person who triggers the outburst. It matters.
