Is it normal that my mom is asking for one of my cats?

Two years ago I moved in with my boyfriend and took two of our three cats. My mom was ok with that because we agreed that those two cats were mine and the other cat was hers. She even threatened to take my cats to a shelter if I didn't take them when I moved out because her allergies were bothering her. Now, out of nowhere, she wants one of the cats back. Her cat hates other cats and was thrilled when ours left! She was getting a new cat from a shelter two months ago but decided against it because of her cat and her allergies. She didn't even tell the shelter she wasn't taking her! She just dodged all of their calls for the past few months after being their hero for wanting a cat that's been there for a year. She's been talking about getting rid of her cat because of her allergies (last week she was allergic to cats, this week its apples). No matter how many times I tell her our cat is happy and is staying here she keeps asking if she can have her. Our toddler loves that cat. Whenever I tell my mom cute stories about baby and the cats, my mom starts asking for the cat again. When I tell her no, sometimes she'll ask for one of our other two cats including the kitten that she only saw a few times (my family doesn't come to our place because my boyfriend hates them). This started about two weeks ago. My mom and grandmother are always starting stupid issues like this. Is it normal?

Why does this make me sad and creep me out? Once this stupid chick told me that she liked my hat and said, "if you ever get tired of that hat give it to me" I had just met her and wasn't planing on ever seeing her again in my life. WTF? But my cat, my awesome little Siamese... I never want anyone to get a pet crush on my baby boy! Don't give up your cat even if it is your mom asking cause (and this is just my opinion)I think it's really selfish for a mom to act that way towards her child. Not to mention your toddler and the other cat would miss this kitty. Besides, it sounds like your mom doesn't know what she wants except maybe drama. Maybe there are other issues at play here?

Do what is best for your cats and do not separate them if you are happy. Maybe your mom wants more cats but she should not want to steal yours. Tell her to get her own cat instead of making everyone else miserable. She made you take them and now she has to deal with that.

My wife and i have many cats. For some reason old people "parents" hate this. If you let that cat go it will be dead or "missing" in a month.

It sounds like your mom is just starting drama. Point her to craigslist and tell her to find herself a new cat.

Yes its normal and i hate to say it but your mom is acting like a retarded person when she does that

i think she only wants the cat because she knows you like the cat so that makes her want it does your mom like you and do you two get along well in the house.
