Is it normal that my roommate's cat's face smells terrible?

The cat itself does not smell. It recently had a bath and it actually smells kind of nice. But then if I put my face near his, his snout smells awful. Is it his scent glands? Or is it bad breath?
Are cat's faces supposed to smell like poop? Because this one's does, and it's really gross.
I've never lived with a cat before, so I'm not used to them.

    All cats breaths smell like cat food. One of my cats cuddles with me in bed. I love her, but every time she yawns her mouth smells gross lol

    my friends cat had this. one day I smelled it's breathe and it was atrocious. she took him to her job the next day (works at an animal hospital)turns out he had very aggressive throat cancer, that just seemed to spring up overnight. she had to put him to sleep less than a week later :(

    Look at his chin - see if he has scabby bumps on his chin. If so, he has feline acne - if not, maybe he just needs his teeth cleaned.
