Is it normal that my roommates never let me come grocery shopping?

I live with two girls in an apartment. Both of them have cars and buy a lot of food. I don't have a car. One of the girls with a car doesn't have a job, she sits at home all day and watches Netflix. I have almost enough for a car and am working on it. Right now I'm between jobs as well so I have to walk to get my food. Our grocery store is 2 miles from the house, and since I have a kidney disorder, I have to walk to get a gallon of water a day. Both my roommates know about my disorder.

I have been losing a lot of weight because I have only been able to afford a little bit of food, and because I can't carry so much on my trips for the two miles. My wrists are in a lot of pain from having to get a gallon of water a day. I've resorted to not drinking water at all any more and becoming dehydrated (we can't drink the water in this state and Britas are not seeming to work). It's not like I'd ask them to take me every day to get a gallon of water, but when they go grocery shopping once a week, don't you think they should at least offer for me to come for the small 2 mile RIDE to the store?

At first I thought, ok, every man for himself I guess. I shouldn't expect people to drive me places.

But it's not like I'm asking for a ride, it's just, if they are already going once a week, and we make eye contact before they leave the house, why can't I go? They know I need help, but never offered. I didn't think it was weird until a friend of mine said "What the hell? They are just leaving you there and not offering to let you ride along?" Bear in mind the closest store is a one minute drive, otherwise they get all prissy and need to go to Trader Joes. It's not like I'm using gas. I just don't get it.

I truly can't tell if it is normal or not for your roommates to make you walk to get groceries every day, especially when they know of your medical condition. AND they started drinking my water.

*Also, can you guys give me advice as to how to maybe, ask why they are doing this? I think they don't like me very much, which stems from the fact that I'm 2 years younger and have already had a high profile job. We live in Hollywood and they are basically mall workers at this point, and are bitter towards me. I can't get out of the lease for 9 months!

Just ask them for a lift! Sure, it's selfish of them to not have offered but have you actually asked?

If they refuse, then you can ask them why: asking them first gives them the out of pretending they didn't know you needed a lift and you'd never asked.

You not being able to afford to feed yourself properly is another entirely separate issue you'll have to find a way of dealing with until you find another job

I haven't asked because they would look me in the eyes, not say anything, and leave. When they came back, they had groceries. Sometimes they would even go together. Come on, I don't really believe they didn't think I wouldn't want to come, too. But I'll take your advice if they aren't as hostile as usual. And the feeding thing sucks. I keep getting dizzy from poor nutrition. I'm like 5 lbs overweight anyways so I can just wait it out I guess.

If you haven't asked how do you know what their response will be? Whether or not you're 5 lb overweight you still need adequate nutrition. Are there no food banks, community groups or charities in your area who could help you out with food until you're back at work?

Of course, you could ask your housemates for some of their food but I guess you're not going to do that if you can't even get yourself to ask for a lift to the shops.

I think... Unfortunately that your going to have to tough it out for those 9 months and move, if possible. Your roommates must get off by watching you struggle. To me that's wrong and not normal. They should have the common decency to at least ask if you needed something if they don't want to take you and unless your personal hygiene is awful they are doing it for total amusement.

I live in a shittier area of California lol, my apartment complex said not to drink our particular water cause of the lead (and also the overall CA giardia/amoeba thing)

Can't sublease according to our contract. I knew these girls from school but once they got here they were all depressed cause I haven't seen them in a year, and since that year they've changed into miserable losers who don't leave the house. It has to do with their unemployment for over two years I think.
