Is it normal that my shins start hurting after a run?

I run about 4 miles a day and my shins start to feel sore, like a bruise on the inside. Could it be my shoes?

I get shin splints too and I no longer include running as part of my cardio. If you find a solution let me know cause I miss running. I found running on grass made me less prone to it.

Calcium. I know there's some debate about it but it absolutely worked for me. I had crippling shin splints, so severe that I had to stop and sit down in the middle of the road for ten minutes.

Yes its normal, you just have shin splints, i'm a runner myself but i never has shin splints before, if u have shin splints then they will hurt almost everytime after u run, all you can really do is ice. According to my teammates that have them

Like everybody said here -shin splints. it's a runner's bane along with runner's knee and etc.

Could happen due to a lot of reasons:

1.Not exercising for a long period of time and then suddenly taking on long distance running. Your leg muscles need conditioning too.
2.lack of calcium and vitamin D (mind you, without vitamid D your body won't process calcium well)
    3.Bad shoes/surface combo.
    4.Rapid weight change.

I had really bad case of shin splints after I gained 20lbs. by weight-lifting only. Without cardio it just seemed like my frame can't support my new weight. Even walking was troublesome.
When I dropped the weight and started running routines everything was back to normal.

Nowdays I'm smarter and keep training my cardio along my weight lifting and gaining.

I have the same problem. I no longer run on pavement anymore. I started running on a treadmill and have gotten a lot less pain.

See a doctor if you want to keep running as they will prob keep getting worse- my shin splints are so bad it feels like I'm being stabbed repeatedly when I try to run

As Ic1988 said it sounds like Shin Splints. I'm a runner as well and this injury is pretty common. As coach would say, just ice it and give it time to heal. Oh and if you got new shoes then it's possible that you just need to break em in.

Thanks! My shoes aren't new, but they're not the best for running. They're old and relatively heavy :(

        Heavy shoes aren't for running.

They're a pair of NBs, I think they were probably made for indoor. Guess I'll be needing new shoes.
