Is it normal that my shit has blood?

I was in the toilet and I noticed my shit has blood on it, I don't know what happened but this is really creepy ( I am sorry to bring up the topic about poop, but it is starting to be a genuine question. ). Even worse I am it feels quite painful trying to shit out anything.

Also is that normal that I shit out blood?

Fresh blood probably means you have a tear or hemorrhoids. Old blood means you are bleeding internally and need to get to the hospital right now.

Yep, this. If it's red blood, it's non emergent, probably a bunghole tear or angry butthole swelling.

"Old blood" means black or tarry poops or poops that look like coffee grounds. That's bad.

I feel like their should be a medical poem about this

Bright red poop, no big whoop
Poops black as night, take immediate flight

      Or something

Beautiful. You should stick that up in the Emergency Room at your local hospital. Maybe it will catch on.

Oh I bet they'd appreciate my poetry, especially if i was brave enough to do them the favor of popping on by during a pandemic.

I could even use a real turd to glue it to the wall, for extra poignancy!

The sudden appearance of bright red blood on the surface of faeces usually just means the anus has been torn, usually by hard stool and straining.

Rose's point about fibre is a very good one, but hard faeces is often also a result of borderline dehydration. If you're not well-hydrated, the body tries to retain as much water as it can by absorbing the maximum amount possible from faeces in the rectum.

Straining to shit is a very good way to give yourself haemorrhoids (if you don't already have them), and anyone who has had those will tell you that you really, really do not want them.

Rectal tears can heal quite quickly if they aren't constantly being reopened by further hard bowel movements. If you alter your eating and drinking habits so your stool is softer, you shouldn't see any more blood after a few days. If you do still see it after a couple of weeks of relatively easy and discomfort-free shitting, then you should see a doctor. (And there's no need to be embarrassed about that. The generally crap diet that most people eat these days means that the doc will have seen numerous patients with similar problems.)

It most likely is hemorrhoids, and most of western civilization gets them (largely courteous of the modern sit down outhouses and now toilet - people who squat above a waste hole or receptacle almost never get them).

However, it might be other things.

You should see a Dr and find out what it is...

Hemorrhoids can be lived with for many decades without much problems if you ensure you stool is soft. The other possibilities likely need medical attention fairly soon.

I wish you the best with this,

Are you oftentimes constipated? Do you strain, and push hard to have a bowel movement? Get a mirror to check if you have hemorrhoids after your next shower. Also I think it would be a great idea for you to get more fiber in your diet. I rather suspect that you don't have a lot of fiber in your diet. I also think you should buy, and use some Metamucil fiber to mix into a glass, of water, or orange juice.

Also you should probably see your doctor, and tell him, or her what is going on with you, and your difficult bowel movements!

It's normal in that it's not super rare but it's not good. Boojum answered well.
