Is it normal that peeing on yourself hurts a lot?

The reason is I followed the advice to treat nettle stings with pee (this was years ago). I learned that pee in itself actually hurts a lot to have on your skin over time (unlike when in the shower), even on places I hadn't been stung. I'm not even sure if it worked. Does it normally work and is it usually painful?

Under normal circumstances urine applied to normal skin would not cause any pain or burning, and it would dry shortly thereafter (diaper rash is caused by extended contact of wet urine and the development of other bacteria in the warm moist situation - it is not caused just by urine).

If there are injuries to the skin then yes, urine - like many fluids - can cause some form of pain.
