Is it normal that people hold their hands on their nose around me?

So I went to a movie about 2 months ago with my brother and my Dad and I noticed half way through that they both had their hands under their nose for pretty much the entire movie.

This moment got me super paranoid and ever since I've been super conscious about peoples hands around their noses for an extended period of time. People I sit next to in class do it, my family does it around me, strangers on the bus do it around me. It's driving me insane and I have no idea whether people just do this a lot or if I smell bad.

I've showered every morning for as long as I can remember, soap up, wear deodorant and wash my hair. It's the daily routine, yet this still happens. When I directly have to sit next to somebody, they'll motion their face in the other direction.

I'm not really close with my family, and I don't really want to talk to them about this so only person I could talk to is a doctor.

Do people just smell their hands all the time or is there something wrong?

OK you shower, soap up, wear deodorant, and wash your hair, the daily routine. I didn't notice you say you brush your teeth. Do you brush your teeth everyday? Or eat foods with garlic in it? If not this could be the problem. Halitosis. Oh you might be paranoid.

Brush my teeth when I get up and go to bed. I didn't really bother mentioning it since people do it also when I'm not talking. I am guilty of eating a lot of garlicy foods, but normally at night so when I'm not around people.

And you haven't realised that the smell of garlic can still be coming out of your body the next day? Do you have no sense of smell yourself?

In my experience those garlicky foods can create smells that last well over a day.. So even if you do it at night perhaps they can smell it the next day... Usually when I smell it, I ask the person if they've ate garlic or onions, surely enough they have the day before. My theory is that after it goes in your body it seeps through the skin's pores/sweat

Of course you brush your teeth everyday. That was a stupid question on my part. It probably is paranoia. Sometimes the mind plays tricks on us. I remember a few years back I thought I was pregnant for a few months having all the symptoms, nausea, headaches, weight gain, no periods, etc. But I went to the doctor it turns out my I wanted to have a baby so much, even though I wasn't thinking about having a child at all, my mind and body created this "ghost baby". This isn't relatively similar to your story but all I'm saying I was embarrassed and ughhhh. And go to doctor

Yeah I was probably gonna go to a doctor sometime soon. It's driving me up the wall.

You should poop on your clothes and walk around to see if anything changes. Be a scientist about it.

Do you floss to perfection? That's critical too. Brushing includes flossing. Gotta go over each tooth, at the gumline, gently massaging.

Are all of your clothes well washed?

I'll tell you I am smell sensitive. I will avoid people that have a smell I don't like, even if it's not really an awful odor, but something like excess perfume, or odd smelling super-fragrant detergent or perfume-y fabric softener. It's nauseating. I hate when people put Febreeze on stuff and claim something's clean.

In your case, since it's your family, just straight up ask them, lol. Maybe it's the garlic. They ought to just tell you.

Your sweat and breath is loaded with garlic. You can't smell it, but people that don't like garlic can. Wash your clothes. They would smell bad too.

Maybe go to a doctor to find out why. Not sure if you eat spicy food, but that can create some sort of odor as well. Watch your diet just in case, and maybe bring gum and perfume/spray.

People often hold their hands under their nose when watching a scary or suspense-filled film. Are you sure it wasn't just that, given the situation?

And thinking further... When I'm around an unpleasant smell I never put my hand anywhere near my nose, I just stop breathing through it and use my mouth only.
