Is it normal that people report posts they do not like?

I notice there are users who like to click report on subjects they do not like.
It hasn't happened to me much, but there are often perfectly good offensive topics that someone reports.
Many of the subjects here are controversial and open discussions on things that may upset people should be welcomed. Some people may actually benifit from comments and because their post is deleted and nobody suggested not to rape the mail lady, they decide to do it and the person who deleted the topic is now responsible as well.
The internet does not exist to comfort peoples feelings. If somebody cannot handle the content of what people may ask it should not be their right to delete it for everybody else.
I would like to know the opinions of reporters as well as people who are reported.

    I only report spam or illegal shit that shouldn't be here (as per the fuckin site rules ffs...) or is so completely incoherent or retarded.

    Comment wise, I report abusive shit. Yes, there's a difference between straightforwardness and abusiveness.

    Just not agreeing is not sufficient reason to report. The system is fucked.

      Can you actually tell if a post has been reported? Other than it just disappearing?

        Well it was just my good faith in Udi actually abiding by what he said would happen until someone gifted me gold yesterday, and stuff that had been on front page started appearing in unmod.

        Also, when I had a story reported, I could still see it after, only it said it was waiting to be moderated, aka randomly deleted/let through, with a heavy focus on deleting the harmless and letting through the bullshit.

    If the comment is just offensive swearing or horny babble I'll report it, but I have never done the same and I suspect my comments are being reported.
    I agree its frustrating when an alternate opinion is removed just because someone doesn't agree with it. I think users should def. think twice before they report.
