Is it normal that public schools inspire complacence with mediocrity?

When I was in high school I recall being told I can do anything. Today I found out my younger brother(15) wants to be a border patrol officer because they make decent money--a poor reason to be in law enforcement. . . Also, his girlfriend wants to become a dental assistant. How is it that when you're not even half way through high school you know you want to be someone's assistant??

When I went to high school in the 60's it was a better education than is available in most colleges today.
As the anti government protests protests and against the war increased the government realized that educating the masses was counterproductive to controlling the population. Education was defunded to the point that most college grads I play darts with today can't do the simple math score keeping in their heads.
Our "powers that be" are working very hard to eliminate the middle class and it seems to be working quite effectively in the case of your brother and his girl.
    Viva the USA!

Oh my God, I can't do simple math in my head and I'm in college and I am pretty good at math. There's just no reinstatement! They said I didn't need it so I didn't have to practice, and many others have made this "choice" as well. Damn them dirty government bastards!

I see nothing wrong with wanting to be a dental assistant, and making decent money is a good thing if you want to buy things.

Having high ambitions is good, but so is having realistic aspirations.

Regarding the first thing you wrote, I would to dispute that anyone can do anything. In a lot of societies, it is possible for a person to acquire great wealth, power, recognition or fame, and, in that sense, it is true that one person can do anything.
I do think, however, that it is not possible for everybody to do that. We can't all be doctors, scientists and lawyers.

I was going to take up this career since it makes decent money and I know many officers. So that would look good on my background. Its not stupid to be a officer as lousy of a job that you believe it might be. Are you going to say how stupid sucreturys are too? Leave your sibling alone and let him get a job as an officer.

I never said being an officer is a bad job to have. I clearly stated that his reason, and yours for that matter, for becoming an officer is a poor one. If one chooses law enforcement due to a sense of duty that is truly great, but to choose law enforcement because of wages is how corruption is created.

Yes, and how much do you believe most jobs get that you don't need college to get make? Minimum wage. This makes as much as a job without college/university. That is good money considering most cop jobs do not require college. Security also makes a bit more than minumum wage but you need a license that costs a good bit to do so. Its not unreasonable to want to make a living. I guess you would rather everyone live poor and find the shittiest paying job there is.

it's really nice that you care about your little brothers future but the only way yo knoww if he is interested in that career field is licking his toes and going balls deep to his mouth. If he enjoys it you would know that he would care about you too.

PS he sounds stressed out with his career field, it wouldn't be bad to make him feel somewhat relaxed

It's normal in my opinion. When I was that age I just wanted to have a job after school.

Assistants are needed in the world. What if everyone wanted to be a lawyer but we didn't have people to work at grocery stores and be janitors. Their needs to be ranks for things to go smoothly.

if thats not the quote fuck it im not googling it ... but you get my point...

You are always someone's assistant whether it's in your job title or not. Don't shit on people who don't need as much as you do to be happy.

  • Human nature inspires complacence with mediocrity, so who cares if schools also do. It's the least of our problems.

At least they want to do something.

I saw some fat nasty twat in an unnamed southern airport bitching to her kids about how much she hates all these fancy overachievers that do stuff and go places.

Many folks are proud of their ignorance.

Well as far as the dental assistant, maybe she likes the dentistry field and working with the people but she doesn't think she's cut out for med school (few people are).

And I don't really think a border patrol agent is a bad job. Many of them are quite proud to do that.

What is your idea of a job that would be worthy to aspire to do?

Anything that isnt being done simply because it make s okay money. The border patrol job is a good job if he really wanted to do that, not just because the schooling is short and the salary is decent. I believe law enforcement officers that are in it for the money are more likely to become corrupt.
