Is it normal that some random guy howled at this girl as he walked by?

So I just happened to be walking around my old college campus last week. I graduated a few years ago, but I had something planned.

There was this girl walking in the same direction about ten feet in front of me. She was maybe 19 or 20, semi-attractive, but nothing special.

This black guy around the same age was walking in the opposite direction. As he passed the girl, he got all up in her face and went "WOOOOO WOOOO AAAAAAHHH!" The girl just continued walking as if nothing happened and the guy walked away.

Is that normal?

From what I hear, it's semi-common for women to be cat called while randomly walking. However, I personally don't think it's an okay thing to do.

It is hard to know if he was cat calling or trying to insinuate that she was an ugly dog. The last time I check, cat calls are never made directly in the face. They also don't sound like a howling dog.

  • I don't know if it was "cat-calling" or just him being a jackass. It reminds me of someone that done pretty much the same thing when I lived in Wales, and my brother is obviously a guy (the person doing it was a guy) and my brother isn't among the attractive ones, but it happened to him.

So, I would say he was being a jackass, not too sure about it being a cat-call, it's possible, but still.

I've gotten whistled at before... And I'm a guy.... It was awkward and it's happened more than once /:
