Is it normal that sometimes i wish i was an idiot savant?

Savant syndrome is a condition in which a person with serious mental disabilities, including autistic disorder, demonstrates profound and prodigious capacities and/or abilities far in excess of what would be considered normal.

Its not all its cracked up to be. So you're able to sculpt a life size version the four horsemen of the apocalypse out of butter and mashed potatoes in 45 minutes, but you shit your pants the whole time and why did you add boogers?!?! Extra texture?? Stop drooling. I dunno man, I ain't eatin that.

No it's not normal to want to be retarded in every aspect of life except one or two in which you excessively excel.

But I can relate to wanting to be a total genius, even if its just that one thing.

Like that guy has read thousands of newspapers and can tell you the headlines on each page of each paper for decades and decades and tell you what they're about etc etc.

But in reality that's pretty useless, and when you consider you wouldn't be as able to have a normal life and take care of yourself, sounds pretty sad to me.

Why not just really put your heart into doing whatever it is you would like to do well? Some people are naturally talented, but hard work counts for a lot too. I don't feel like I have that much natural ability for the arts (especially when you've got 14 year olds out there capable of photo-realistic drawings, which is something I just don't have the patience to even attempt) but that's all I've done, from the time I was young. I would just sit around for hours and draw... and I think I'm pretty decent at this point.

You don't have to be an idiot savant to do what you love and do it well, you just have to be dedicated to it. :)

I totally agree with this. I was the "smart kid" when I was young and it really wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The whole time, I just wanted to fit in and have friends.

Yeah it makes sense why you would. However if you told that to someone who is related to one they might find it very offensive.

  • I'm somewhat of a savant with music. I can hear a song once and play it back on the piano. I have a lot of talent composing music as well.

Being a savant unfortuantly does not get you a job or money easily. Nobody really cares about talent these days.
