Is it normal that this guy got mad in line?

A few weeks ago I stopped by a Starbucks for coffee. There was a man standing behind the place where the line forms looking at the menu. A few others were standing way ahead of him almost at the register. I said, "excuse me, are you in line?"

Then he completely went off on me, saying of course he's in line, and there's no way he would let me in front of him, and he should be allowed to take as long as he wants and if I was in a hurry I'd just have to wait.

This went on for a few minutes and I just smiled and nodded. I didn't explicitly ask to cut in front of him, but I suppose he was correct that it was implied. I have come upon this same type of situation before and have asked in the same way but have never experienced this kind of reaction.

What you're describing is a ranting idiot that enjoys hearing himself speak about stupid stuff.

I don't think it's normal; it sounds like a personal problem to me. Perhaps this guy's had too much coffee?

When people are really stressed out a lot of the times they bottle up their feelings. You know when you have a lottt going on the littlest thing can send you over the edge? That's probably what happened. Maybe wife was yelling at him and his dog all of a sudden likes his brother-in-law more than him, and he just got laid off, and his car wouldn't start he had to take the bus to starbucks, then a girl behind him asks an innocent question. And he explodes. Stress can be accumulative. He probably just had a busy day. Or maybe he's just an a$$hole. Idk. But no, its not 'normal'.

He is a mentally unhealthy whacko. He made assumptions about motives. Lock him up in an insane asylum.

Why are you so surprised that you ran into one of the many hundreds of assholes that inhabit this world?
Quick thinking and a good retort might have been fun, but him having a heart attack from stress would have been even more fun.

Maybe he was just annoyed that he hadn't had his coffee yet... or that he couldn't choose what to have. They do have A LOT of choices...
