Is it normal that when my cat meows, no sound comes out?

whenever my kitten meows, nothing comes out. she makes all the jaw movements for meowing, so I know she is trying to say something, but only air comes out, no sound. should I be concerned that my kitty can't find her roar? I hope she finds it soon

If she can't speak at all, take her to the vet.

You what this means? You must praise her to the heavens while standing on a structure. He'll be like the Simba of this world. Everyone will bow down to him and there will be a magical backing track to go with your traditional singing.

It might be because of breed. My cat is in the Oriental grouping and she doesn't meow like a cat from another breed, say a tabby. She has a very unique sound that sounds like a chirp or a crying infant.

Its a "crog". A crog is the rare hybrid offspring of a frog and a cat.

    Don't ask us!

    Get proffesional advice.

And then make a decision if you need to take it to a vet

I took her to the vet and he said she was fine, but he didn't really take the time to do a full checkup. he was kind of a jerk. I'm taking her to another vet in a couple days for a second opinion, and I thought it couldn't hurt to see if anyone else experienced this with their cats, and how they handled it. trust me, I made the vet app before I posted this thread lol

  • Since your cat can lip sync, put your hand up your cat's ass and become a ventriloquist.

if its a new cat and its not able to make noises take it to the vet. Even as small babies out of the mom they make noises. If its not able to say anything there might be something physically wrong with it. Though animals can have a number of medical issues that are also found in people like hip issues, blindness and going def. Maybe your cats just mute. I would defiantly ask the vet though.

I took her to a couple vets actually and it turns out they both believe that she was abandoned when she was very young and had no other felines around her to socialize with. Now that she has kitty companions the vets believe she will learn to verbally communicate over time

Well that's good. Good luck with your kitten.

Cats do this all the time. They want to meow, but they decide not to. Or they just make a very, very quiet sound. Like a slight mix between purring and meowing.

Don't bother with it. If your cat wants to tell you something, it will meow XD

didn't you read my post on my other thread where I said I would not adopt any more cats unless they were declawed already by their previous owner?

I did take her to the vet, he said she was fine, but I'm not satisfied with that, so I'm selling a second opinion from another vet, and a third opinion on here

Is your kitty cat a stray? It's possible that she wasn't around her mother enough to learn how to meow, and there for didn't develop the vocal cords needed to make the sound.

It could also be respiratory infection, which, I hate to say, is NOT good. Take your kitty to the vet just to make sure she's okay. Good luck! :3

no, according to the shelter her mama was an indoor cat that had a litter of four but the owner couldn't keep them so she took them to the shelter

In that case, I would definitely take her to visit the vet. She may be fine, but you wouldn't want to take any chances incase it's something serious!

I did, and the vet was kind of an ass so I have an appointment for her in a couple days. I just came in here to see if I could get a third opinion

My opinion; get a vets second opinion. Has your cat ever meowed before? Or has this just recently started?

  • I have a cat that didn't meow for his first year. His first meow was a squeak when I gave him a bath. Now he meows but it's a higher squeak than the other cats.
