Is it normal to adopt a different culture?
I'm a German American, but at my inner core I am full of the caramel goodness that is a Latino. I've been around Americans my whole life and spent time in Costa Rica, my brother did as well. I think that American culture can suck in some aspects, like how people can be so judgmental and complete douches, sometimes they can be, not all are. So being engulfed in Latin American culture physically, I loved it. Everyone there would talk to you and was always so friendly. So I embraced the culture as I learned it. After coming back to America from the summer trip I brought the "Pura Vida" with me.
After starting college, the group of people that actually accepted me consisted of about 5 Mexicans, one "sheltered white girl" who we all love and is dating mi hermano, and Laurianne who came from Africa. Unlikey group, eh?
So I get to hang out with them daily and I get to exercise Spanish as a bonus. It has been declared that at heart I am one of them. Miguel also stated that his family is my Mexican family. Which Perla (little sister) is totally cool with, and amaaaaaa is totally impressed with my Spanish and likes me.
So all in all I have adopted Mexican culture as my own, mixed some with American culture. Anyone else sort of adopt culture in a way?
