Is it normal to avoid answering the phone/door?

Whenever someone is at the door or phone I do my best to avoid answering them, unless I know it's an emergency or I know who is there/calling (and even then I don't want to answer them). I really hate it and usually just ignore them until they go away/stop calling. Is it normal?

its called screening your calls and screening your visitors...lots of people do it...who the hell has time to answer every phonecall...that's why email, and texting, and voicemail are wonderful (you can screen messages and respond in your own damn time)...I have a friend who will leave voicemail one after the other claiming it was important and she really needed to speak to me (without ever saying WTF she wanted/needed) and when I finally called back after being so damn annoyed it was never an emergency/important--she was just persistant until she got a response---yeah that shit doesn't fly with me so now I don't trust any of her 'chicken little' voicemail messages...if you are in dire need of attention, just leave one message saying you want to shoot the breeze and have some damn patience--everybody has a life....same with people just showing up at your door (who the hell still does that anymore anyway)...respect and consideration call for planning ahead when you're going to visit somebody...unless it is a life threatening situation....if its the UPS/FedEx guy, they can just leave stuff at the door without having to see your face or unnecessarily dragging you from your bed, the toilet bowl or your meal...
