Is it normal to avoid media/songs/movies/games that i like?

Sometimes when I really like something, I try and avoid it because it feels like each time I experience it, I get more bored of it each time. And since I like it so much, I don't want to re-experience or otherwise it will seem predictable and will not feel the same.
The times that I have re-experienced stuff that I like, I eventually find myself with this really sad feeling of nostalgia, wanting to experience whatever it was for the first time again.

Is this normal?
Is there a way to get rid of this feeling?

I feel the same. I used to put different ringtones for each contact on my phone. I set my sister's ringtone for my favorite song. she called all the time and it ended up making me hate that song :( I also constantly find myself trying to create new moments that I can look back on it and say, "Wow! that was good day. I wish I could feel that way now." I think that everyone longs for "the old days" you just have to believe that in the future, you'll look back on today and say the same thing.

Hmm well with music if an albums good you can get something different out of it everytime I think. But you've explained yourself well and I kinda get what you mean. If that's the way you feel that's fine but I don't think its normal. If I love something I relish in it as I think many do

I'm like this with some classical music, because out of any music, it by far gets the strongest reaction out of me. I don't really avoid it, just make sure I don't overplay it. I'll listen to it every now and again, so that I still get to enjoy it, but don't kill it.

I only do it with that sort of music, because I enjoy other stuff in a way where I can't get enough of them and avoiding them is the last thing I'd do.

I feel the same way, especially with the nostalgia and wanting to experience it for the first time again. Sometimes those feelings become so intense that I wish I could get amnesia, or at least go back in time, just so that I could recapture that moment of discovery again.

But as my mom always tells me, being a devoted fan of something is kind of like being in a relationship: the earlier time periods are always exciting, but eventually that excitement winds down to just being comfortable with it. But just because you lose excitement over something, it doesn't mean that you have to stop enjoying it. Sticking by something you love even when it doesn't make you feel emotionally high anymore is what separates the die-hard fans from the fairweather fans.

Hopefully this post made sense and was helpful to you 8)

    I can't relate. I have a hard time letting go a little.

I do this too! We get tired of most things eventually, but you will always move on to something else, so does it really matter how long you stay with one..? Do you also like to get to know "around it", such as with fan art, and other allusions..?:)

    • Sometimes it can be hard to find new stuff that you like constantly, but regardless of whenether I move on or not, I still have good memories of whatever it was. I really like fanart/fanfiction/remixes, it adds something new to something old. If I could find something new for everything old thing I liked, I'd be a really happy person.

Same. If there isn't any, I usually make my own:)
