Is it normal to be 18 and i still sleep with my lights on?

I honestly have not slept one day in the dark since i was younger. Now it is creating problems when i sleep out. I can not even imagine sleeping in the dark because of how terrified i am. while in the dark my mind races of what lingers in the dark. i hyper ventilate, scream, and can even have a panic attack. Is it normal to be 18 and i still sleep with my lights on?

    Thanks everyone for the reassuring comments and lmaaooo to the people who say to seek help... ik im not the only one out there that sleeps with my lights on.. im just paranoid about the dark but its nothing there is nothing mentally wrong with me.. im just also worried about if there are any harmful long term effects that being consistantly in the light would bring

      I dont sleep in the Dark either i cant stand it but i dont sleep with the lights on either. Try leaving your TV on, it lights up the room a nice reasuring dim and the sound keeps ur mind occupied, when u get tired enough to pass out put on a sleep mask and that does it for me... And on a side note i noticed that some other posters said they sleep with thier beds on the floor, i dont know the connection but i to sleep with just a box spring and matress on the floor, u might wanna try that too...

    Its not normal for the average 18 y/o however its clear you have made a bigger fear out of it by constantly having the light on.

    It's natural for humans to fear the dark for evolutionary reasons.

    You really need to start trying to turn it off, if you can't, seek help and/or advice

    Hey im 31 years old and have six kids of my own and still sleep with the lights on too! lol! I also keep my bed on the floor and sleep with the radio on. I also would like to know what this name is for this problem...

    listen i used to have the same prob.so i kept my bed on the floor.and i turn on my radio.and hell you could sleep with a night light on.but there is a name for your problem i just dont know what its name is
