Is it normal to be 23 and still be too scared to go to sleep?

Okay, I remember when I was younger just wishing I wan an adult so I wouldn't get scared anymore. Now I'm 23 and the other night I stayed up and watched tv instead of going to sleep because I read stories online about 'black eyed children' and they freaked me out so much.

I felt like such a kid, not wanting to turn off the lights and go to sleep!

I haven't had this in so long but was wondering if anyone else gets this still as an adult? Obviously I could rationalize with myself and knew I was being ridiculous, but it didn't stop me watching 2 whole seasons of friends until the sun came up the next morning!

It's normal. Sometimes I like to scare myself by reading creepypasta and I will turn on all the lights in my house until I go to bed. Then I will sleep with the computer monitor left on as a "nightlight".

I once snap a picture in a recreational park and when I went home and look back at the picture, I saw two ghosts with super long black hair. That night, I couldn't sleep at all.

I'm not scared of the dark, but I tend to have a harder time sleeping without the tv on. I tend to dwell on negative thoughts otherwise, which makes it hard to sleep. :c

Is it wrong that now I wish I could read those scary stories?

Yes, it's normal. I have this problem, too. I cope with it by avoiding scary movies and books after dark.
