Is it normal to be 28 and still live with mom and dad

Is it normal to be 28 and still live with mom and dad and not want to move out? I worked at a warehouse but right now I am on unemployment since it was seasonal. Now I met a lot of people at the warehouse over 20 that lived with mom and dad. However when I asked these people if they needed a room mate, they said "No I like living with my mom and dad". I just dont understand why if you have a job and you could get a room mate why you would not want to move out?

There's a guy on this site who still lives with his parents at age 69.

if you have a good relationship with your parents, it's probably more about the unconditional love you receive in that living environment compared with moving out and taking the gamble with other people and their flaws and them noticing yours and the drama that so often comes with all that.

It's more common in recent years for people to be living with their parents these days, considering we are in the second great depression, its too expensive for most people to move out, in some cases, people have moved back in after losing their home. As far as the lack of ambition towards leaving, not so normal, at least as far as US/Canadian standards are concerned. (I can't speak for others).

I guess alot of people do it. I left to go to college far away from mom and dad and when I moved back kinda to the area its maybe a day long drive so haha no surprise drop ins. I would never go back. I would give blowjobs at the bus terminal before I'd even think to go back.

From what I know of you, you have an unprecedented amount of drive and ambition for a colonial millennial.

It's an accurate description is it not? You're from the USA (colonial) and in your early 20's (millennial), it's only offensive if you're not proud of who you are... right?

It's funny how you find time to spend on this site. Given how you admit to being such a ladies man.

Also, the term "colonial" is hilarious. God save the queen!

Right. I have a job. I get breaks. I kill that time fucking around on this site. I get all the action I can handle without sacrificing my presence here. Did you notice I was gone for a week? Guess what I was busy doing. You know what's even funnier than the term 'colonial'? The idiots that they tend to be. You come across as a right wanker.

Not to sound mean but It's called growing up and being an adult, I get if you need time to get a job ect. But why do u need a roommate get a little studio or find a roomy on cl. My son just turned 20 and doesn't have a job I'm seriously considering 1 more yr for him if he works then maybe another but should not be into mid 20 and living at home that's just lazy and immature

    • Since some of us are poor as crap and cant afford Rent along with utilities and food. That is kind of why poor people usually get room mates since they need some way to cut the bill up. We dont all get paid 20 dollars an hour, sorry to break it to you.

Times are a lot different. I moved out at 22 after college, got a job with good pay and bennies right away. Gas was $.45 and rent was $145 for an apt. at the beach. And I always had money in my pocket. It's much harder to get established today.

    • How long ago was this? Right now everywhere I find is 800$ for a cheap one bedroom and for the more expensive places 1000-3000$ for monthly rent and beaches are always more expensive since beaches are nice to live on. Also right now gas is 3.45$ so what era are you from?

Getting established wont happen if you dont try. If you have a job and a way to establish yourself why not try?

It seems to be normal these days, but it wouldn't have been normal in the past. Partly it's socioeconomic, if these people work seasonally like you it's probably economically safer to live at home. I think some people mature less quickly these days. I personally couldn't get out my house fast enough. I moved out at 21 and married at 23, which is abnormal for these days.

in some life circumstances it's necessary, but shouldn't go on indefinitely

It's not abnormal at all, but that doesn't make it right. As long as you live with you're parents you will not be independent and living life entirely as you want. I would understand if your parent were sick/struggling that they needed you at home, but come one, you're 28 it's about time to move out.

It is very normal these days, people just can't afford to move out anymore.

I moved from my parents home at age 24. But here in my country people delay the leaving, usually they only leave completely when they marry. It's a cultural thing, I guess.

I imagine they're making little and would prefer to save up instead of spending on a new place.

At 28 I had already moved into my second home and was married for 7 years with a kid.

It's hard to imagine the level of either immaturity on your part or lack of parenting skills on your parents part (or both!) that this sort of state of affairs could ever come into existence. I doubt you've ever known actual hardship which is a shame as it builds character and makes you appreciate things. I think a long "vacation" to a squalid third world country would probably either shock you into being a person that realised how pampered you've been or you'd die of system shock.
