Is it normal to be 20 and still live with your parents?

I'm (soon to be) 20, and I still live with my (loving) mother. Yet, so many of my friends are already somehow living on their own, in an apartment, some already working and/or studying and seem to have already tasted independence. Most if not all know how to drive, I never even moved a car in my entire life! (Mostly because I don't need to, everything's nearby)

I do frequently help my mother around the house with a lot of stuff and we share the housework to do. She's got her part and I've got mine. But still, is it normal?

I think the still living at home bit is more normal than the not driving a car thing, but I'm originally from Houston, Texas so I'm probably biased.

Where's he going to be from that it makes sense to not know how to drive at the age of 20? Mozambique?

There is nowhere in the U.S. where it makes sense to not know how to drive as an adult. NYC included. Young people, especially young guys, are just plain missing out on what life in the U.S. has to offer if they can't drive.

Oh, believe me, I agree with you, but I have heard that a lot of people in New York City don't drive. On the flip side of all of this I have never ridden a city bus in my whole life, I've only been on the subway once in my life and I can count how many times I've ever been in a cab. I honestly don't feel right if I can't drive.

Actually where I live its pretty common for people in their 20s and 30s to still live with their parents.

  • The most amusing part of the comment section so far is that everyone is more concerned about my lack of driving license rather than the fact I still live with my parents.

    I live in France.

Get that license and get out! There are so many things you’re missing.
