Is it normal to be a self gratification junkie?

When I used to have facebook, I would check it obsessively for notifications, however minor. I found myself writing status's/posts purely to garner likes and then feel really down about it when only a few people liked them. I found this kinda behaviour to be obsessive and it spread to other sites as well. I realize that it is attention seeking and vain. I've since deleted facebook but since coming on is it normal I find myself checking my comments whenever I come on to see if they've been thumbed up. I wish I wasn't like this - what has social media turned me into?!?! Is it normal to be like this?

  • Good for you that you deleted your facebook.

I actually went the other way and deleted all of my friends.

I just use it for a news feed of bands and stuff I like.

Concentrate on the things you need to improve in your life.

Don't get caught up in the bullshit.

If you dig a hole until your arms get too tired, you're still only halfway there. N'ooome sayin'?

Good. Now you go try to fill that hole back in and you gonna find all that dirt don't fit back in there. What you gonna do with all that extra dirt? It's damn hard to sell dirt, son. You might be better off turning it into mud.

Get a life. I'm on here when I'm doing absolutely nothing else. Only idiots decide to actually stop what they are actually doing to check shit like this site or Facebook.

Social media was for people to share things they did.DID not send a message while at the beach saying you're having the time of your life. Obviously not, cause you wouldn't be thinking of a stupid website. However, now they do include the share now features, because there are a lot more lonely in real life idiots in this sad excuse for a world

    • yeah I see your point. I think the lonely are attracted to that site moreso because it gives them the interaction with other people that is lacking in their everyday lives.

  • I'm not even on facebook, the government uses it to watch everyone.

    That's why it was created.

    • Yeah towards the end there I had some major privacy concerns, people just thought I was being paranoid.

          • Nothing to hide but the things I posted on fb were intended to be read by my friends not exploited and scrutinized by advertising companies and the government. It goes against our civil liberties.

I don't have anything hidden in my rectum, but I don't necessarily want the government (or anyone else for that matter) poking around in there.

And that line is much older than Kurt Cobain.

I'n the same way, sorta, I have a few followers on my twitter and tumblr and nobody ever really does anything with my posts. then when I would get even one little notification it wasn't as cool as I thought it was going to be it meant nothing to me after all. so I started just posting stuff that interested me. I'm not saying that my pages suddenly got a ton of followers or anything they still kinda suck but I feel a lot better because I know that I like the stuff I posted and I don't care if anyone else does or not. If anyone likes it too then awesome but if not then awesome.
