Is it normal to be a talented drummer but afraid to perform on stage

I can play the drums...very good. But I pretend like I don't because one I afraid to play in front of people and I don't like the attention. When people ask do I play of when I see other drummers playing I get mad an jealous. It's pretty fucked up. I think it's because I see some else doing what they love and I know I'm too afraid. Plus even I'm good, i always screw up while playing

How do you think famous musicians & bands got where they are today? They may have been nervous too, but faced their fears. Hopefully you can do the same. Good luck :)

Totally normal. I don't know if you're a fan of staind but the lead singer has major stage fright yet he goes out and performs. You're not the only one with this fear....but as other people have said, you need to start playing in front of people. Maybe start out small by playing in front of one or two friends and go from there. =)

That happens to me. I'm a pretty good guitar player, I love playing alone, with my bands and with friend guitarrists. I just can't play with others watching or play with other guitarrists I don't know. If someone plays I get jealous because the attention is not on my guitar.

I have friends that play in front of everyone they know and take their guitars even to McDonald's.

I guess we have to face our fear, play in front of people and get used to it.

Suck it up. Face your fears. Realize that no one is perfect and that success is not gained with a few tough lessons/mistakes.

Even pros mess up time to time.

If you don't suck it up and do it, you'll end up a bitter nobody that resents everyone else for taking the risk.

    Good luck.

Everyone who has never performed before is scared to perform in front of people.

But it gets so much easier, believe me.

Start with small places, and get bigger.

It is normal. But if it is your talent, and you devote your life to it, you are going to have to do it at some point. You will find it is not hard as it seems. I promise.
