    That depends.

    It sounds a bit like you mean "Disney Pirates" vs real pirates.

    Because don't forget Disney downplayed a lot of the stuff real pirates of the time did.

    Pirates from that time period were not suave and cute. And they were rather unique in their violence

    I really enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so I can see why pirates would appeal to you. Don't listen to the people telling you to be aware of the stuff real pirates did - enjoy your fantasies. :)
