Like Bdawg said. It's not he caffeine. And sugar is not bad for you in moderation. But the artificial sweeteners do not occur naturally. They are the cancer culprits. Remember, moderation is different for every substance on earth. Everything is good for you in moderation, & bad in excess. The key is finding the balance in each substance you take into your body. Sugar is good for you, to a point. The body needs sugar. (small amounts). Fat and whole grain is good as well. These and many other substances the body needs to function. Even alcohol is good for you in moderation. There is no 'safe' level of artificial sweeteners, or other carcinogens however, in including trans fat. Bottom line.... If occurs naturally, you can probably use it. The key is finding the appropriate median for each substance.

I was addicted to Diet Pepsi for many years, often drinking a whole 2-liter a day. Kicking the habit was tough. I went cold turkey and spend several days in the bed with headaches, sweating like crazy and vomiting. It was horrible, but now I don't crave it anymore. God only knows what all those chemicals have done to my body, but I'm free of it today.

Maybe if you made it more genuinely like the original formula and added actual cocaine to it..

are you guys fat? just curious because I drink several can of diet soda a day too and I'm gaining weight.
I heard from a nutrition professor that artificial sweeteners increase your bodies uptake of real sugar as well (glucose).

Me too. I spend alot of time trying to find sales on diet coke. I can't stand the thought of ever running out. I have started weaning myself off of it.

I was hooked 3 to 5 a day. I 40 and always felt tired, my joints ached and attributed it to getting older. However I stopped the diet drinks and realized I was no longer fatigued and my body felt better. Aspertame is poison!!!!'n

3 cans? Ha! I literally drink probably 4-7 a day. I know that's bad...really bad, but I am extremely addicted. I'm prone to addiction, however, and I figure getting my fix on Diet Coke is a lot healthier than cigarettes, drugs, or alcohol.

Also I forgot to mention...Diet beverages can contain alot of salt, so that tired and crappy feeling could be that you are dehydrated...drink lots of water...I hate water, but it makes a world of a difference!!

yes you are normal!! the sugar substitutes/ sweetners in diet beverages can cause withdrawal like symptoms when you consume them often and then just try to cut them out cold turkey from your diet. You may have headaches, irritability, and have ups and downs. Try slowly cutting them from your diet and start drinking lots of water, you may feel crappy at first but in the long run, you will feel much better! The only sugars/sweeteners you should allow in your diet are natural sugars from fruits and 100% Fruit Juices mixed with lots of fiber!! Hope this helps!!

Im addicted to diet coke too!
It probably is the caffeine, i could do without drinking it but its enjoyable, wakes you up and fckin 'quenches the thirst'!

I wouldn't worry about osteoporosis too much just yet, think thats just looking too hard for a condition caused by this.

You're addicted to the caffeine. I don't drink soda at all and only the occasional coffee when I need to be particularly alert early in the morning. If I drink it regularly, I get addicted to it, and when I don't have it I get horrible headaches and nausea.

Carbonated beverages, especially in that amount, are very unhealthy. This probably sounds crazy, but drinking a lot of carbonated drinks is thought to increase your risk of several types of cancers, including but not limited to esophogeal, stomach, and pancreatic, due to the acids and gases.

The main concern, however, is oseteoporosis. The phosphoric acid and carbonation irritate your stomach lining, and your body defends itself the only way it knows how - by soothing the irritation and neutralizing the acid - with calcium! This calcium is taken from your bloodstream, and then from your bones when it becomes low in the bloodstream. At three cans of soda a day, your body is nearly constantly defending itself against assault by these acids and gases. Think about it.

Your addiction has nothing to do with Diet Coke itself, and everything to do with the caffeine. Instead of the soda, have a coffee in the morning and maybe one in the early afternoon. Eventually cut back to just having coffee in the morning.
