Is it normal to be addicted to video games?

Ok. Recently, my parents put me on a limit. 45 min a day. Once I start playing I can't stop. Every school year, at the end of 1st semester, my grades hit a slump, which is why I'm put on a time limit. I play more than the 45 mins and don't do my homework. I wait till 11 pm or so. So, is it normal to have an addiction like?

This is perfectly normal. As a young teenager, I totally couldn't stop playing either. My brother and I set ourselves our own rule: we can only play at weekends starting at friday after school. So that was what we did. It was a perfect balance: we study hard and we play hard when the time is right.

I suggest you do the same. The nature of playing games is such that 45 minutes is just not enough to make you happy. I'd rather you stay off games until the weekend and then go all out.

It's normal in today's society where there's so much tehnology surrounding us, that we can never get away from it. What also comes from this are limits that parents put on the technology (in your case video games) but these are not strong boundaries and can easily be broken. So it's normal for you to be addicted since the rules and limits are hardly reenforced.

Well, I have a similar addiction but luckily I can manage my grades so I have no time limit. I do regularly play for up to 4 hours on school days, and I wish I could stop. I can balance games with grades but not grades, games, and a social life. I have no life, really. Every day after getting home from school I check multiple gaming news sites and play on my xbox. In short, no, it is not normal, but you certainly aren't alone. (the fact that I just paid 13 dollars for an iPhone game can attest to that. :P)
