Is it normal to be afraid of being alone?

When I ask, I don't mean "being alone" as in being the only person in a room. What I mean is "being alone" as in not having anybody to turn to or depend on.

I have many close friends and my sister is one of my most reliable people, but I worry that one day I won't have anybody to call a friend. I worry that I won't have my family around to help me out and care about me.

Is this normal? I've never met another person who fears being alone, so I worry that it's not normal.

Maybe you haven't met anyone that's afraid of being alone cause no one is comfortable talking about it, but that's incredibly normal.

You sound like one of those people who simply Must have people around them. Perhaps it is your fear of one day being alone that
motivates this need. So barring the sudden death of all of your friends and family I don't think a person like yourself will ever be left truly alone. Yet I see your fear as completely normal. There are many people, whoever, who prefer to be alone. This may be due to some traumatic emotional event in there lives involving a loved one. This type of person will be seen as a classic loner by others but not feel lonesome at all. And in fact, feel totally normal and quite content with him or herself.
