Is it normal to be afraid of dating someone better than you

There's this guy who wants to get together with me. I like him too but the problem is that he's much better than me and I feel inferior. His family is rich, mine isn't. He's very well educated, I'm not. I feel that his family and friends will tell him that he's too good for me, he can find someone better and when he realises it eventually, he will leave me. His friends are also from elite schools and I think it'd be embarrassing if he brings me out and they ask about me, where I'm from etc. I'm like out of his league...

You can always try.. what have you got to lose? if you're really "inferior" (which I don't think) he'll just dump you.

People create these walls that serve no other purpose but self depression. I've dated really rich people, and it never was an isssue that I barely pay my rent. I've dated smarter people and I think I actually learnt a few things from them.

There was an episode of "Moesha" where Kim got a new boyfriend, but he was better than her at everything and she kept being jealous of him. It was funny!

Just go for it! :) Nobody who I know cares much about what school you're from or how rich your family is, and I come from a pretty diverse area in terms of wealth and education. Nobody thinks of anyone with less money as inferior. If anything, it means you must have some other really great qualities if he wants to date you :)

If the worst comes to the absolute worst, you can always tell him you're not comfortable with it and get rid of him. If you like him you should give it a chance :)

I've felt this way before too, but just think about it. If he really likes you enough, he's not gonna care if you're not as fortunate as him, or if his friends don't think you're good enough. He'll be with you regardless.
