Is it normal to be afraid of fish?

for as long as i can remember I would cry whenever fish were around me. I cry at aquariums, lakes,oceans, and even when I am around fish tanks. a few reasons i believe i am afraid of fish are that when i was little my cousin told me that a little kid my age was eaten alive by a fish he was trying to feed at the causeway. Another reason is because my dog was killed by eating a poisonous fish. I'm terrified by goldfish and even the fish you order to eat. I have a serious problem or is this normal? HELP PLEASE.

      interesting fact: you're more likely to have a vending machine fall on you than get attacked be a shark.

      Not that there's anything wrong with fearing sharks :)

      Why? Have you ever encountered one?
      Is it the shark you're afraid of or the thought of being eaten alive? A lion or tiger could do that too. Are you afraid of them?
      99% of sharks would not hurt you, which is a lot better than your fellow humans.

        Well lets put you in a shark tank with a nice juicy slab of ribs tied to you and see them not do anything.

          I have spent a great many years in the ocean, spearfishing for dinner for my family and friends. There were quite often sharks around, but I'm still here, un-bitten.
          A hell of a lot more people are injured and killed in car accidents than have ever even seen a real shark.
          Being bitten by a shark is not something that you really need to worry about.

    I used to be afraid of touching fish but after working in a petstore, I got over it pretty quickly.

    I know some one who is creped out by all sea life (but not scared) even dolphins. It is an uncommon fear, but these nothing wrong with it.

    As far as I'm concerned, it depends on the fish. It sounds like what you need is immersion therapy for your anxiety disorder.

    Boy this is one really strange fear. It's not like fish can chase you down the street, hide in a dark alley and hurt you or even break into your home!
    I'd suggest you really try to get over it as it's pretty irrational. Fish can't really hurt you if they are out of the water and if you don't eat them.
    Seems pretty simple to me; don't go swimming and don't eat fish and oh yeah, stay out of aquariums.
    Come on... get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          my friends dad actually put the shark there no lie honest he caught it florida and brought it to nyc

        As so often happens, I found a still from that film by accident on the web today and now you mention it. I'd never heard of the flick before.
        Oh well, I stand corrected, I guess SOME fish CAN follow you down the street!
