Is it normal to be afraid of growing up?

I was always obsessed with Peter Pan as a kid, and anything that seemed like you'd be young forever. It's not necessarily the "getting wrinkles, crow's feet, sagginess" that bothers me. It's more like I feel as if I will become like those 40-50 year-olds that go through midlife crisis and hate themselves and feel like they're nothing in the world. Or you're 80, and you think, "Wow, I've done nothing great to help the world." Or, from Breakfast Club, when they say, "When you grow up, your heart dies." Oh god, it scares me to death. Anyway, what's your all's opinion on this?

Stay young for as long as you can (this may depend on your looks and your actual age)
Don't do 'grown-up' things. These things you have 80 or so years to do.
Note, this goes very strongly towards young teenage girls who presently sleep or want to sleep with their boyfriends. Why in the world would you want to do that? You can do it for 80 years, once you've become an adult. Plenty of time to make it mundane!

Whilst young and especially still known as a kid, act like one.

I agree. im 18 and although im not a virgin i did stop having sex. I figure yes people say life is short, but im only 18, i have so much time to do that, that i might as well "preserve" myself. I feaf getting older too, my last birthday was a little depressing because of this :-/

        Hi Talia sweetheart.

Thanks for the reply. I suppose you are 'preserving' your feelings and physically intimate experiences.
When you do decide to explore all these areas with someone who makes you feel trusted and loved then it will be an exciting time for you. Especially with new physical sexual experiences that you both will share together. I mean seriously it will be fun.

To reduce this special time of intimacy through youthful selfishness (usually by the male!) would be a shame. So, yes hold off a bit and continue to play around still without fully losing yourself to a mere boyfriend acquaintance. The time will be right, when it 'feels' right, and not a minute earlier.

If I was 18 again, I'd be with my friends (and family) all the time. Whilst giving my career the best chance in life (note: anyone can study and PASS any university degree etc, geez I might be a doctor this time around!)

Continue to have fun or even please yourself physically. But as a teenager still best to experience life, not bed (except for resting lol).

  • Peter pan has freedom, that's something that most kids don't have. When you grow up you become your own boss and make the house rules.

At the age of 21, I'm considered an adult. No getting around it. But on the inside, I feel like I never grew up past the age of 12. I decided that I'm not going to act my physical age, but my psychological one. I don't care what other people think of my lifestyle, because this is what makes me happy.

Haha I used to feel like that when I was younger. I was afraid of being adult, being responsible...i could never imagine myself as brave as my father (he's not afraid of the dark). But that was when I was 10, im 20 now and look foward to my career and money money money, lots of money om nom nom

Yes it is normal for people who think that they lost a part of the life for some reason and want to stop growing in order to take it back.I had this too, and I've made some researches on how to be young forever. Here's what to do :

1)Buy loose tea.Whole leaves. No pyramid tea bags from super market.Buy Black,Green (or white, but it's expensive),Woolong,Rooibos,Mate tea.Drink at least 3 cups of tea every day.Polyphenols will prevent cell damage, which is responsible for aging.

2)Go for running or jogging. These 2 exercises are aerobic exercises and are known to slow the aging process.

3)Stop smoking.Stop alcohol except beer.Beer has a lot of vitamins and antioxidants. 2 x 330ml per week shoul be good.

4)Stop junk food.Eat roasted and boiled food and avoid fried food.

5)Drink 6-8 glasses of water everyday. If you drink 3 cups of tea every day, 1-2 glasses of water is good.

6)Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables daily

7)Being anxious or mad has no effect on aging. It has effects on heart, so it's not an aging factor

8)Drink hot cocoa.Hot cocoa has a high amount of antioxidants.1 cup every 2 or 3 days with milk preferably.

I don't know if all these are going to stop or reverse aging, but I'm pretty sure it will slow a lot the aging process.

Well I'm a 21 year old and i have to say that i still feel 14 and sometimes even 12 :D so you just have to know that no matter how old you get it's important how old you feel.My mom is 41 and she said that she feels my age and still be mature for her age so it's okay you'll be just fine ^^
