Is it normal to be afraid to take a walk by myself?

I'm a young girl and I want to lose weight and stay healthy. I want to do this be taking daily walks because I LOVE taking walks. But I rarely do because I am too afraid. I always think I will get murdered, raped, kidnapped etc. I can't walk with anyone because my friends aren't gonna drive to my house EVERYDAY and take long walks with me. I don't have a dog I can walk either. Is it normal to feel this way?

No, you need a therapy. Talk to psychologists. You are paranoiac. You need to fix this problem, or it will limit your life with fears.

If you need to defend yourself, hold the knife flat up your wrist, blade facing out, hidden. Make it look like you're throwing a punch then swing the blade out. And the person who bothered you won't be doing so again. :)

Haha, sorry if that sounded brutal, it's a tip a friend passed on to me. I too am a girl who gets scared to walk... I don't like to fight but I'm prepared if I have to.

  • Yeah its normal im a guy and i dont like walking alone. sorry but the only advice i can give you is learn to use a knife and use it. or get a boyfriend who lives near you.

Have you considered learning a defensive martial art? It's another way to keep fit but also give you the confidence and ability to deal with unsolicited attention, so you can walk in peace.

Yes. I've noticed that being female can make you nervous about things like this. When you're a lone male walking about, no-one seems to notice you, but if you're a female, you tend to garner more attention. Then there are the news stories and so on...who wouldn't be a bit 'noid?

That's why I'm glad to have a dog. However, I do take walks by myself sometimes - you just have to keep your wits about you.

Maybe you could take up a job as a dog walker for other people's pets?
