Is it normal to be agnostic & pray?

I'm agnostic, but lately I've prayed before going to sleep. And sometimes, I get this weird feeling that some people have when they pray, like someone is protecting you and listening. I tell myself its just my imagination when it happens. Idk, I think I'm starting to get more Christian-y (gasps in horror)

I'm an atheist. I think it would be cool if it turns out there IS a god... but you only get in to heaven if you DIDN'T belive in him/her. Then us atheists would all be sitting around in heaven wallowing in irony, not sure whether or not to enjoy it. :P

I used to pray when I was a kid even though I wasn't in a Christian family, just because I wanted something to happen and I didn't know what else to do about it. I think it's normal. It's like a more active form of wishing, I guess.

Yeah, just in case he's there and care right. Only I'm not agnostic anymore, I've gone full atheist, no offense to any religious people out there. Religious people can be quite sensitive.

I think no matter where prayer goes that kind of mantra or reinforcement in a person has an effect on their reality.

Yes, it is normal to pray although you know it is no use doing that. The best way is to put all efforts and then pray

You know how when you look at an Industrial Punker and feel a bit uneasy. You know how commercials make you feel positive things when you see a brand. You know how you feel certain emotions listening to certain music. (Romantic music `feels' romantic.)

It is called social conditioning or operant conditioning. (Use wikipedia or google.)

There have probably been enough people to tell you how you should feel when you pray, direct or indirect. You have just been conditioned to feel like that. So as an agnost and person it is ok. As atheist you should have known better, but atheisme =/= intellect, so ok too.

I'm not sure what religion is for, but maybe it's not for behaving yourself. You don't want to believe in God, you're not an agnostic, however, an agnostic doesn't know, but it doesn't escape religion. Try Nexus magazine, and join the Rosicrucians, that will be thoroughly agnostic. Yes it's normal to be agnostic and pray, I'm an agnostic and I pray, I even go to church. But I go home comparing events in the Bible and I will never stone or spank anyone, and I don't worship Jesus dying on the cross, and I hate drinking wine in church: I want a church where nothing is shed for sins and Christians never drink blood again.

Religion is for the masses to stop everyone from going crazy. You must be searching for answers to something

So who/what are u praying to, then? Ive seen many different "meanings" for both aethist and agnostic. Im Pentacostal Christian (yes the Bible thumpers whom speak in tongues n pass out during worship/prayer :D) and I know the feeling u speak of. I would try and ask for confirmation from God. Its not asking to "prove Himself to you. Be very specific and for it to happen within x amount of time. And I dont mean Lord let me win tonites lotto. Meditate on ur request, if it feels right, pray n see what happens. Might get a surprise...;D

being agnostic still means you believe in God, only that its not restricted to the definition of how OTHERS are perceiving Him.

BtW i'm finding how funny the idea of spreading prayers via internet can truly become.

The question you need to ask yourself is: what or whom are you praying to? Don't stifle the feeling because it makes you feel more 'christian-y'...just forget that the word 'Christian' even exists for a moment and just go with the flow. You could be on to something big here (smiles).

Well, agnostic means that u don't belive anyone can have knowledge of god himself... So theoretically a person could be both agnostic and a christain. It's called agnostic theism.

I think its possible to be an atheist and pray. Being an Atheist just means that you believe that there being a god is impossible. I identify myself as an atheist but still find myself praying. It's part of all animals conciousness to be superstitious. Sometimes I find myself feeling guilty and thinking, 'I better apoligize.' and other times I find myself promising to god that if i win the lottery I will use it for good. Even though conciously I am pretty much 100% convinced that there is no god.

Atheist, don't be a fool, atheists shouldn't pray, leave that to the positive divinities (atheist, elitist and agnostic are divinities). Is a divinity (atheist etc) crazier than a religion? :)
