Is it normal to be an atheist and shy to talk about christian beliefs?

I'm an atheist and whenever I'm with my friends, sometimes there's a topic about God and everything. Even though I know the important details, I still feel uncomfortable talking about it.
Perhaps because I could say something really stupid, and everyone would be like O__o
is it normal To feel like that?

I'm a Christian and I don't like talking about God in front of my atheist friends. It's good to respect other people, and you might offend them by making points about atheism. Or they might shoot you down and offend you. And don't take that guys advice, how would you like it if your Christian friends shot down your "idiotic" beliefs? C'mon now, that's not cool. (:

Don't worry about offending them. We atheists aren't easily offended. I'm sure your atheist friends would quite enjoy debating with you.

At the end of your life, you may realize that you were TOTALLY WRONG. God EXISTS and His inconceivable power also EXISTS, whether you like it or not. Sorry.

This is what you sound like:

"ALLAH AKBAR!!!!!!!!! DURKA DURKA FATWAH JIHAD!!!!!! KILL THE INFIDEL!!!!!!!!"
except the jesus version, not the mohammed one.

It's OK for them to discuss something you don't understand or don't agree with.

The real question is ... do you WANT to join in the conversation? And why?
(in other words do you plan to join in respectfully or do you intend to cause drama?)

Don't be ashamed to tell people that their beliefs are idiotic. I know everyone has "freedom of belief", but if those beliefs are harmful, you have a duty to contradict them.

I know how you feel. My girlfriend forbids me from discussing religion with family or friends because it always ends with awkward silences.

Maybe it's because assuming people are "idiots" for not believing what you believe ... is usually a bad way to start conversations.

Not to mention it's just as bad as those who try to shove their religions down other people's throats.

I never said they are idiots, I said that their beliefs are idiotic. Not the same thing.

It's a great tragedy that in the 21st century, with all the knowledge in the world easily available to us, there are still intelligent people who have idiotic beliefs.

I think most religious people secretly know that their beliefs are a bit nonsensical, but they've had those beliefs beaten into them as children or peddled to them like McFries as adults. They're to scared to think, because "God hates questioning curiosity" and "God loves unquestioning faith"

          actually... no.

but many people will make such comments in order to "prove" that their own faith - or lack of - is correct

Just remember - we are all born atheists. Nobody's taught about God by God. We're all taught by people who were taught by people.

we're also born not knowing about science too.

although if you think about it, many scientific "facts" are often believed on the basis that you think someone else proved it, without actually investigating it by oneself.

YOUR beliefs are are idiotic. You also BELIEVE that there is no God. Have you ever introspected deeply? Can you define "religion"? Religion is NOT something vague. There are things beyond material knowledge.

For as churning the milk produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife. Proverbs 30:33 maybe this verse can help those that dont believe ( the atheist). You could try this with your friends sometime and then discuss the truth of it. I like the part about twisting the nose, but you cant do it half ass, you really got twist it. This is just one truth in the bible, there are many, many more. Good luck.

It's just easier to not, just like politics. I don't talk about either with anybody, because at the end of the conversation, neither parties have changed their opinions for the better and everyone's all hot-and-bothered.

I'm actually a bit surprised that Christians would willingly be friends with an atheist... I think it's their duty to try to convert all the heathens.

Who are these friends of yours? Me and my friends never talk about religion, and neither did anyone else in the twelve years that I went to school.

I answered no because it sounds like you just dont have confidence. Theres nothing more annoying than atheists and theists, together in one conversation.

I'm glad you're the type of person who doesn't believe but won't make everyone feel stupid for believing . I think that is special. I think it is special that you think of others. I'm a Christian and feel that we should all love one another and try not to offend each other but stay true to ourselves. If we were friends, I would try my darnedest not to offend you and love you like my own self , however, I would still stay true to what I believe in no matter what because I know, I feel what I believe even if others don't .

I personally like to talk to friends about these kind of matters. In my opinion you shouldn't talk to them about these things to "correct" them but possibly to correct yourself.
I find, myself, to be learning more about pretty much anything by having a good conversation or even an arguement. It is a really interesting way to learn quickly and understand. But remember, you don't want to be angry or down-talking, it is just silly and immature to believe your faith is superior to others. At the end of the day, all believes should be tolerated aslong as they don't harm another being.

Do they know you're an atheist? I can understand why it can be intimidating, there can be a lot of bigotry directed towards atheists from some religious people.

You know your friends better than any of us though.

That's normal, Christians can be intimidating about that sorta thing.. They tend to get really upset, and aren't very open minded.. The majority of them anyways.

I think, we should all just smoke a fucking joint so we can know what it's like to truly not give a shit about what other people believe and freely discuss our own beliefs and opinions so we may know what it's like to truly not give a shit and learn to not give a shit while sober.

I'm a Mormon. I don't give a shit about what other people believe. I get hell and high water all of the time for my beliefs? Do I give a shit? No! Because the Mormon church has no problem with prescription marijuanna. And that's the way it goes, yo. I don't shove my Mormonism down anyone's throat, don't shove your beliefs down mine so we can both breathe easy.

Hopefully, you're not the type of atheist that my ex was. He'd go on massive rants about how stupid my religion is and then wonder why I was going home. I'm not shovin' my religion down anyone's throat and if I already know your opinion and you're still giving me shit for it then you're just being a negative Nelly. Why don't you try being a positive Pete? I don't talk about religion until someone else brings it up. I'm big on Eastern religions too, but here in Caliberalfornia, you mention the word "spirituality" and whether or not they know you're religious they auto-assume that you're going to try to convert them.

He still asks me why the fuck I broke up with him too.
He's actually supposed to be a Rastafarian. When I tell him that I left him for being an intolerant prick, he goes on another rave about how he has the right to share his opinion and the only reason I don't like hearing it is because Christians don't like the truth. I just don't like him telling me that I'm a stupid-ass v.v

What the hell is wrong with you?? Not taking the Internet seriously? This is very serious stuff. I mean come on I just helped someone out with a very important problem. It seems they just had a dinner party with immediate family and a fight broke out over who would get the last White Castle burger, the OP gave it out to an in-law and it seems that as a result of this their own mother was so angry they deposited an "upper decker" in the toilet (I wont get into what that is) before leaving. But I advised them to just fight fire with fire at the next holiday gathering at Chuckie Cheese.

Now do you mean to tell me that person made that up?? I cant, I WONT believe that.
