Is it normal to be an awful procrastinator?

I'm in my second year of studying Architecture at university in the UK. All through my life I've had a last minute relationship when it came to doing work. I can't ever remember doing work weeks before a deadline, and I always leave it until the very final moments to complete work. I can't seem to break out of the habit, and the more it happens, the more it kind of relaxes my mind into believing I don't need to start early because I've got enough time to do it.
I barely passed my first year (seriously don't know how I did. Architecture is a very work heavy course), and now we're heading towards the end of term deadline, it's really beginning to show how bad a procrastinator I am! Help! Is it normal for me to be so laid back? Anyone have any advice to help combat it?

As you can see by my username, I know where you're coming from :P

In all serious though, I just royally $!#@ed up one of my classes this semester that I KNOW I would've really enjoyed because I procrastinated hardcore and put everything off till the last semester thinking I would get away with it - I DIDN'T! :(

I guess I'll give you advice that I'm trying to give to myself - when there's something you KNOW you need to do, do it, or at least, put some work into it. Generally I avoid something because it's stressing me out, BUT, by avoiding it, I amass more stress onto myself when if I'd have put work into it, I could have relieved some stress. I also find that it's much more difficult to enjoy myself doing fun stuff when I know in the back of my mind that I'm putting things off. You need to get more proactive about things you know you have to do, is what I'm saying, and I need to do the same. Don't make the same mistake I made! I deeply, deeply regret botching this class this semester and would do anything to do it over.

You have just described how I acted throughout both my degrees, seriously I started my dissertation two days before the deadline this year.

Well this year I did a masters in biomedical science and I passed everything. I handed one piece of work in 12 days late which I was surprised they accepted it.

i am a seriously bad procrastinater. I start things the day they are due for the most part. I am hoping, however, that when i get to college that will all change.
