Is it normal to be anal over grammar?

I hate when people don't know grammar. I'm not perfect, but for some reason it pisses me off when people say "I should of done" or "MACchicken" vs McChicken (mainly black people). I just can't take such ignorance. Is it normal to feel this way?

As long as its not txt spk, who the hell cares, and even then just don't bother reading it and move on with your life. Simple as that. Of all the things to be bothered about in this world, grammar is on the list next to asymmetrical pretzels and bumble bee farts.

I just make a quiet judgement of the person's intelligence and then decide whether or not I should ignore what they have to say.

Bad grammar used to piss the hell out of me, but now I think I moved past it. I even learned when to use em dash, en dash, and hyphen (part of the job), so if I were to get angry about people's grammar, I'd be pissed 24/7.

Haha, yep. I was considered "Grammar Master" in fourth and fith grade. In my report card, I had A's for grammar in all terms.

It feels like you're coming in way too hard on it. I also dislike bad grammar but not necessarily to the point where it pisses me off.

What obligates these people to speak and write in a way that you deem correct? Language is just something made up by humans and so are the rules governing a particular language. Moreover, the rules for correct pronunciation or grammar change over time, they are not set in stone.

I have had greater dislike for bad language, so to speak, before, and I guess I can still mildly dislike it. Good news is, that if other people can have their 'incorrect language' you should be free to use your 'correct version'.

I'm not saying they can't use improper grammar or that what is grammatically correct now won't change. However, when people are communicating it's best to have set rules to avoid confusion. Ever heard of the "let's eat grandma" scenario?

Also, not to seem rude, but your opening statement is akin to Einstein's time is relative bit, which is true, but guess what happens when you're three hours late to work. People have the right to talk like an idiot all they want, it's just annoying to process what they say to actually know what they're saying.

In the first examples you gave, I don't see how confusion could arise.

Not sure how MACchicken is bad grammar. That's just getting a name wrong. Other than that I feel the same way.

Recently I've been noticing a subtle one. Using "everyday" where "every day" should be used. "We're open everyday".

It's just anything that's wrong. I can tolerate some things, but there are things I cannot. Should of, MACchicken, people not using subjects... it's just so frustrating. Especially when I try to be nice and not correct their mistakes and they attempt to correct me.
