Every time I watch football on espn I have to turn the volume off because Craig burley does my tits in!
He's not great, but there are worse out there. For me, Andy Townsend (pretends to know what he is talking about but has no analysis of the game at all. He just says key football words that he's heard other people say), Mark Lawrenson (barely understands the game either and compounds this by attempting to be funny). But the worst of the lot is Jim Beglin. Does Beglin think he is commentating for radio? His commentary seems to consist entirely of telling us what we've just seen with our own eyes. I once counted how many times he told us that player A had passed to player B (after we'd just seen player A pass to player B). I didn't start from the start of the game. I was about five or ten minutes in when I started counting and he still managed over a hundred.
Before anyone says it, yes, the two people I've criticised most had long and illustrious playing careers with my beloved football club. That only just goes to show how true my criticism is, though.

i'm like you the commentary can ruin a good game, i will mute it too but then you dont hear the atmospheric sounds the refs the crowd etc, its annoying they fill every silence with chatter that we can see with our own eyes, my personal favorite peeve is when they talk about other teams and players not even in the match
Meh, I never really paid too much attention to that kinda stuff. I'm more focused on the actual game- Steelers destroying the Ravens that is.
