Is it normal to be antisocial at school but not anywhere else?

At school I always act very shy even though I'm really not. When I go other places like summer camp or youth organizations I am the complete opposite. I don't mind meeting new people, as a matter of fact I enjoy it. My personality just shuts down when I walk through the school doors. Is this normal?

I was the same in school... I just hated talking to other kids. I didn't really feel like I could relate to them.
I'm still sometimes shy now that I've been out of school for awhile, but that's mainly due to anxiety. Otherwise I have no problem being personable and friendly... I just don't typically hang around people my age.

Fuck yes, same thing happenes to me. I think its mainly just because you're around a Bunch of other people your age who tend to judge people alot. Out in the real world you arnt surrounded by hundreds to thousands of little immature brats you judge people. People grow up and mature more and they know not to do that shit so out in the real world you can act more chill without having to worry what people think of you. Thats how i see it

I'm the same here, except I'm only different in class. I act like my normal self when I'm with my friends during break (who are not in my class).

  • I change my whole attitude in college also. If I am so annoyed by someone in college who wont shut up I will just sit and do nothing and carry on tapping the desk with my fingernails as I usualy do all the time in college but if the same person done it outside of college I would do whats on my mind. In schools/colleges its best to keep to yourself if you do anything then you will be seen that way for a while. I keep to myself and dont speak to anyone except the group people I join to fit in at college because if I spoke my mind in college I would most likely be kicked out.

Yeah i am the same man in certain situations i just go dead quite and shy. I personally think for me it is beacuse i am scared of looking like an idiot infront of crowds, or it's just some facade i created to get me through certain situation's without any trouble.

    I hate my peers.

In public, the population is mixed with old adults, young adults, teens and kids. In my school, the population is teens, teens, adults, and teens.

As a result, I rarely talk at school, and those who attempt to initiate conversation (sometimes friendly, usually otherwise) are met with condescending and verbose alternate ways of saying "STFU or GTFO".

I don't like people in general, but teenagers are just intolerable.

I feel similarly pretty often but usually find that people have more to offer than you think if you just give them a chance, and most of them admit to watering themselves down for the sake of being amicable. I definitely regret being less approachable around these people sometimes but jesus christ they can be a pain in the ass.
