Is it normal to be freaked out by navel oranges?

The first time I saw one was quite late in life (I did not grow up in a country where they are cultivated), I was completely freaked out. I thought there was something wrong with them. Just looking at them makes my skin all itchy and I have to turn away.
I'm not afraid of belly buttons just the navel on the oranges. The bigger it is the worst it makes me feel, and if there is dirt in between the cracks of the navel, it makes me wanna barf.
Anyone else deal with this? All my friends think I'm weird.
If this helps, I also hate thins with multiple small holes very close to one another, my dad also shares this fear.

The "circles close together" fear is called trypophobia. Do NOT Google Image it, the pictures are quite disturbing.

I admit they're a bit weird looking, but that reaction seems extreme.

It is pretty bad, I can't find anyone who relates.

You have every right to be "freaked out by navel oranges". Why just last week, when I was watching CNN news, there was this segment on how navel oranges are rebelling and sucking people into them, right through the navel. Apparently, the navel is like a snake and it can open up much wider than the whole orange and, ZAP, you are inside, drowning in orange pulp.
You are so wise to be wary of these gentile/Arab killing oranges from Israel.

I knew there was a reason I got a morbid feeling near those things.

I have the same fear of navel oranges. When I was 19 I first noticed the fear. I was at a store and saw these huge oranges with disgusting looking navels. 26 years later I still am bothered and disgusted by navel oranges. I don't like behives or anything with sections or holes. Its weird because when I was a young child oranges were my favorite fruit. I don't know when this phobia developed. I have 3 children and one of them also has the same phobia. He is 15 and brought it to my attention and asked me if he is weird for having this feeling of anxiety. I thought it strange he had it and i never discussed having it with him. Hereditary?

I think the fear of holes is tryptophobia. If you can't stand the way they look, have someone peel and quarter one for you.

  • Omg! I have not heard of that before. I would laugh, but I am afraid of bicep curls. I think it is normal to have one weird fear that is difficult to explain.

    Jeez lady.

But yeah chicken gristle freaks me out too. All white and crispy and when people chew it... I just want to leave the house and never come back.
