Is it normal to be obsessed with brushing my teeth with baking soda

The sensation of taking a heap of the dry, salty powder and brushing it on my teeth as dry as possible is a sensation I seem to crave just about daily. Even better is having an electric toothbrush and going to town brushing my tongue, as far back as I can bear. I actually genuinely enjoy how abrasive it is and it’s purely a mouth-feel thing that’s appealing to me. It also has to be a good brand like Arm and Hammer or something, because others are either so finely ground it falls out of the toothbrush or are tasteless so aren’t as appealing. I know it can’t be the greatest for my teeth so I follow it with regular toothpaste in the hopes that maybe the enamel strengthening properties will help. I’m considering only brushing my tongue if it’s too harmful.

It’s an everyday thing for me now. Just enjoying the feel of something dry and abrasive being brushed on my tongue. I’m guessing it’s not normal?

I brush my teeth usually 1-2 times/day and use baking-soda mixed with my tooth-paste ; and it feels wonderful. Tastes like absolute shite though.
Only ever had 2 teeth removed in my life. 1 was a cavity , yes ; the other broke really bad at wrestling.
21 and my teeth are still strong. Only ever went to the dentist like 4 times in my life ... I'm poor though ; so I can't afford to go (:P).

I don't like to use abrasive stuff on my teeth.

Once you erode your enamel you can not get it back. Enamel rebuilding toothpaste is just a temporary solution, it doesn't actually do anything to fix the problem. It just makes your teeth feel less sensitive because it builds up. As soon as you stop using it the build up fades away and you are left with the same problem you started with.

    Please look after your teeth.

So I’m guessing I should stick to only brushing the tongue with it, then?

I would. I badly damaged my tooth enamel from over zealous brushing (not even using baking soda, just normal toothpaste) and now my teeth have visible dents in the front and are extremely sensitive. I can't eat or drink anything from the fridge without letting it warm up first. Sensitive toothpaste does nothing for me because the damage is too bad.

The dentist said that all i can do to fix it is get caps on the front of my teeth, which cost thousands and stain quickly so need to be redone frequently.

Learn from my stupid mistakes and look after your tooth enamel.

Flouride is bad for you. Personally my teeth are fucked and brushing them hurts.

Maybe you like the gritty and rubbing feeling, it could cause your skull to vibrate in a soothing way. Sometimes if you stick an electric toothbrush on the roof of your mouth and close your mouth, your skull vibrates and makes you sleepy

That very well could be it! I do seek very textured stuff in particular. It’s incredibly appealing to me for some reason. I’ve even had some pica-like cravings, specifically for the purpose of getting that gritty texture

I use baking soda for toothpaste too. It's more alkaline than regular toothpaste. I also use baking soda as deodorant for the same reason. Regular deodorant has chemicals that your body absorbs thru your skin.
