Is it normal to be peeved at people who play devil's advocate always?

Pretty straight forward I think. I just have a friend, who is always playing Devil's Advocate. Now most of the time it doesn't bother me too much. If I'm just curious about something, it doesn't bother me at all, but when it's a subject that I'm clearly upset about, and she's doing it, it starts getting under my skin. Maybe I just have a massive ego? Or maybe it's normal and anyone would get upset?

Yes, sometimes it's helpful but, all the time it's just plain annoying.

If they are sincerely looking for more information before making judgement or trying to get you to understand another's point of view then that is understandable. But if they are just doing it to have a debate and try and show off how smart they are.. uhhhgg 'wistfulmaiden' is right, just punch them in the mouth and let them know what a narcissist they are.

There's always a line i suppose. I unconsciously play Devil's Advocate because I think people need a fair go. However, you could see how someone would be justifiably annoyed if a friend was advocating for something really nasty that he or she knows is a sore topic for you.

    We wouldn't be friends :(

I find argument is a good way to get a better understanding of your beliefs. It forces me to learn more about stance on every subject. After a good argument I feel refreshed.
