Is it normal to be scared of deep water?

I can't step into deep water unless i can see the water clearly. It's really scary i just feel like something is gonna come out of the water i cant swim in the ocean because it scares me. (I love clear pool water) but wont get into a water that i can't see a thing inside even the ocean water.

  • I think when your mind plays trick on you , you can't do anything about that. But there is a way to face your fears (any) there are doctors that people can get help from ,,, for example if ur scared of hight and I am... You could do sky diving. And I'll never do that. Thanks for the replies tho you guys are pretty funny.

I'm terrified of the Deep water, cause when I was younger I refused to go in. And the Crazy camp counselor threw me in the deep end. Can u believe it? ever since I can't swim and won't even go in a rowboat. It definatly tramatized me.

  • I live by the gulf. Deep water is pretty scary if you think about it. I tapped this comment whilst taking a medium sized dump.

I went for a swim in the Pacific Ocean about halfway between California and Hawaii. The water was 5 miles deep!
As I swam away from the boat, I opened my eyes and saw this HUGE shadow below me.
Those aboard said I could have won the Olympics swimming that fast. Nearing the boat, I opened my eyes again to see what the huge creature was doing, only to realize it was the shadow of the boat I had seen.
Our fears are greatest in our imagination. Reality is often much less frightening.

When I'm at the beach, if I'm out deep enough where there is more than half a metre below my feet when I'm in standing floating position then I'm a bit unnerved.
Mainly though cos I live in Australia and we have a number of shark attacks every summer.
