Is it normal to be scared of dogs when they are hyper

I'm sure you know what happens when you open the door to a dog owner's house. The dog frantically barks, and then rushes to the door, pounces on and then starts licking the guests. Many people find this sweet and adorable. I, however, get scared and grossed out (when the dog licks) when this happens. Whenever I ring the doorbell to someone's house and I immediately hear a dog barking frantically, I become a bit anxious, and try to avoid the dog as much as possible until the dog calms down.

I like spending time with calm, relaxed dogs, but when they are hyper, they scare me as much as seeing a creepy bug crawling on your desk (minus the urge to kill).

Is it normal to be afraid of this?

Normal. Who the heck would want to deal with a dog's annoying behaviors that the owner doesn't bother to correct?

Depends on the dog. My sister's toy poodle can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Poodles and shelties give the best kisses!
