Is it normal to be scared of microwave ovens when they're on??

I get made fun of all the time for this, but I can not STAND to be near a microwave when its on!! It SERIOUSLY creeps me out, like I feel like my skin is crawling and I hate the sound! I'm not really afraid of radiation or anything, I hold my cell phone to my ear and all that... I just always punch in the time and dash away so Im not near when its on! They're fine when they're off. Is it normal??

It's okay to be afraid but they really won't do you any harm. Microwave radiation is non-ionizing. Its energy "packets" aren't strong enough to cause harm. The sun and tanning lamps, however, are more than capable of causing severe damage.

Well... I know there's nothing to fear in terms of actual damage from them, but I just can't be around one when it's on! I just get irrationally freaked out D:

I hate them too and I avoid them at all costs. I'm scared of the radiation.

Hmm interesting...but more importantly - 'dash away'??? Who dashes anymore? This isint the 1950s!

One thing I do know is not to eat the food for at least one minute after you remove it from the microwave. Apparently the water molecules are still moving for one minute after.

I don't think you should stand near the microwave when its on.
Pretty sure the manual says that too.

    Normal.
