Is it normal to be scared of your father?

I'm scared of his anger and have been all my life. He was never physically abusive or anything, but very often got mad and went "to the dark side" as my mum says. When he gets angry he will either yell/rant or go completely silent and sulk, for hours or sometimes days. If it is especially bad he will break a plate or something and storm out of the house, sometimes threatening to hurt himself though he never has. Idk I've spent my life being afraid of his temper, but also I never thought of it as not okay until recently? Any thoughts greatly appreciated

All bark no bite. The guy's just blowing off some steam, in a rather unhealthy way, but it's more the perception of something's going to happen then it actually is. I wouldn't be scared of him because all you're life he's never actually turned that into physical violence.

It is not normal to be afraid of your father. Sounds like you could be a victim of emotional abuse. There's also verbal abuse. Just because it isn't physical doesn't mean that you haven't been abused.

I can honestly say that I've never been afraid of my father, he yells, and screams on occasion, but I've always stood up to him since I was a little kid. I've always made a point to look him right in the eye too.

If you are scared of him, you should plan to move out.
