Is it normal to be so attached to my cat?

Ever since I got my cat last June, I've been really attached to him and hes really attached to me. Like, my family is going to Hawaii for thanksgiving and I'm still debating on going even though my plane ticket is already purchaced because I don't want to leave my cat for 10 days. I'm scared that hell forget who I am when I get back.

It's understandable to be so attached to a cat. I have a Siamese and he is my little man, but I would highly advise you to go to Hawaii nonetheless. As long as you have a good and reputable babysitter he should be alright and of course your feline best friend will remember you. Now there's a good chance your pal will probably lecture you about your absence at length but he will remember you and be very happy to see you when you get back.

If one gets lucky, a cat can be a marvelous companion.
Mine was a good friend for 18 years. She traveled with me in the truck from SC to Alaska and back, twice, to the West Coast by plane and truck half a dozen times, numerous other trips by air and in the truck and sailed to the Caribbean with me on my present boat. When walking through airports or into a building from the truck, she would ride on my shoulder like a parrot. She never got sick or needed a vet until the very end and always preferred the cheapest food.
She hated most people, so she was a good "watch cat", often leaving an uninvited guest, trying to board "her" boat when I wasn't around, bleeding profusely.
I was very sorry when she died, but I do not believe I have enough time left to outlive another pet.

That's such a beautiful story xx
That throws the 'a dog is a mans best friend' saying out the window. It just shows that cats can be just as loyal, if not more.

Great tale. Cats have always been my best, most faithful & favourite companions.

I loved reading what you wrote.

If you feel this way, you could always get an older rescue cat.... Maybe one would appreciate a fun life like that!

It is rarely a good idea to bring an older pet aboard a boat. Most do not do well unless raised in that environment.

My gf is really missing a warm and fury around and we are considering a few exotic pets, such as a coatamundi, fennec fox or a kinkajou, which might do well traveling on a boat. We'll see.

He won't forget!! I had to move 1000 miles away from my cat for about a year, then I came back because I couldn't handle being away from him especially since he was so old. I'd come to visit a couple times for a few weeks, and he'd follow me everywhere, sleeping right next to me and purring loudly, so I knew he didn't forget.

Awe! I feel the same way about my cat :) I just got home from a vacation for about 9 days and on the drive home I was thinking how wonderful it'll be to come home and she'll just run and jump into my arms...that didn't happen at all. First, she hid from me...and she never ever does that. Then, she got up on her cat tree and growled and swiped at me for about 30 minutes ha! After her little tantrum was done, she hasn't left my side since...even tries to follow me out the door to work now. The petsitter was over 2 hours before I came home and said my cat was fine when she was there and was laying in her lap.
I grew up with dogs but this cat picked me. I was living alone in an apartment at the time so why not? I actually love the unpredictability of the attitude lol. Anyway, your cat will be fine! Enjoy yourself and maybe when you come back the bond will be even stronger like mine was :) My cat really was a bitch...but now she's kinda caring haha

It's completely normal to feel like this :)
Your story reminds me of what happened to us last year.

We took in a stray, and when we went to New York for 8 days, we left someone in charge of feeding her and checking that her and the house were ok.
When we got back, the house stunk. Like, really bad. It turns out that the house sitter accidentally locked our cat in the kitchen the whole week and forgot to check back that the house was ok. There was cat poop everywhere, she used our toaster to pee in, she had diarrhoea, and she was very distressed. It was horrible. And believe me, she was very vocal about us leaving her.

To top it all off, we had a very stressful 10 hour journey home. Not the best thing to come home to to be honest.

Just make sure you leave someone reliable in charge, or just put your cat in a cattery.

It's nornal how you feel, cats are wonderful pets. But don't worry, she won't forget you. Even if she did, which i doubt, she would love you all over again. Just make sure you get the right person to take care of her.

    1) Make sure your cat is pregnant.
    2) Go on an interstellar mining ship with your cat.
    3) Slack off and end up in cryogenic stasis for 3,000,000 years.
    4) Awake to realize that the only people left on the ship are the ship's computer (with an IQ of 5000), a hologram of an annoying superior officer you once had, and the remnants of a new species that evolved from the offspring of the pregnant cat you originally went on board with.
    5) "Power sauce" exits the program.

It's normal to love your cat, but being that attached to it? No.
