Is it normal to be so easily fascinated with history and the past?

i would do anything to be able to go back in time and see everything for my self, i often think about the past a lot and how different and what people would have been like, by the past i mean ancient Egyptian times and middle ages not recent past like WW2.
i just get so interested and im so fascinated about all these magical/amazing stories and myths from the past and the types of famous people.

does anyone else feel the same or am i just sad?

It's cool. To those who like it, History is their thing. I wasn't into it terribly in school, at the time, I thought taking it in college was a grotesque misuse of my time and money. It wasn't until I got terribly interested in coin collecting that I got into history. Looking stuff up about coins, why a particular coin came to be etc. lead me to rediscover history and put into context all those silly little dates I had to remember to pass exams in school and university.
    For instance:
The history of the United States Dollar and how it came to be in 1792 has a rich history that goes back to several European countries as far back as the late 1400's.

The best learning is the learning you do for yourself out of curiosity. It is not sad at all. It is fun to do. It is also smart because as long as your curious you will learn and become smarter.

I always wish I was a viking, so I could legitimately kill priests, rape nuns, and take their gold and burn villages to the ground. That would be great. Most likely, however, I would likely be some slave and get jacked up if I went back in time.

You are not sad at all. I love American history and comparing the lives of our ancestors with modern citizens. I like seeing how people came to have the morals and values they have now. I also wish that I could travel back in time. However, I want to travel to the Puritan era and examine their strict morality, hardly see any of that nowadays. If there is one person that I could meet it would have to be Emily Dickinson, she escaped society and I envy that.

I think it's perfectly normal. I feel this way a lot, and I'm sure lots of other people do to, hence history teachers who actually enjoy their job.
