Is it normal to be this addicted to reading?

Okay, so I have to read at least 150 pages a day or I'll be cranky.
Whenever I go to the library I try to leave with 100 books, which is allowed in NYC.
My mom nor my friends will let me go to the bookstore.
I will read at every free moment I have including walking down the street.
I have a digital reader and 4 bookcases filled with books at my house but I still need more.
For punishment my mom used to take away my library card.

I'm the same. Once I start a book I can't stop and spend every free moment I have until its done.. just remember that life is good and you don't wanna miss too much of it wrapped in other people's stories, make time to create your own story :)

I'm not sure it's normal, but it's better than being addicted to the internet! I spend way too much time on facebook and other sites. But books? What a healthy, educational addiction you have! I bet you're really intelligent.

This sounded like an awful lot until I looked at my own habits. I had three weeks off work last Christmas and bought eighteen books to keep me going. I was through them before New Year. Thank God for my Kindle. One of the unexpected benefits was being able to get a new book in seconds.

How is the Kindle? I myself have the Nook.

I have heard that Kindle can do more and was looking at getting it. either way, both e-Readers are awesome!

It really depends whether you just want an e-ink thing or something more like a tablet. I wanted something that felt like a book and did nothing more than be a book (it'll play MP3s and read your books to you and browse the internet, but I really just use it as a book). And for that, it's stunningly good. I sometimes forget that it's not a book. I love books so much that I never thought I'd take to a Kindle but it's won me over.

I'd probably have felt the same about a Nook, though. They don't look very much different. The biggest draw for me was e-ink (especially when I first saw it). The Nook is just as good in that respect.

But there's nothing wrong. I think it's normal. You can basically become addicted to anything. And you're addicted to the thing most of us should be addicted to. I applaud you.

Your Mom punishes you by taking away your library card? Really? That's the oddest thing ever. She should be happy that reading is your addiction and not crack cocaine.
    Now I've heard everything. :-D

Hmm, I am addicted to the same thing. I actually think it ridiculous how much I read, it even interferes with my life sometimes. I read whenever I can, and our library lets us check out only 30 books at a time. I'm obsessed with reading, and it doesn't matter whether it's by an actual author or reading a fanfiction. I always have a story in front of me no matter the place. I read on my Kindle, my cell, real books...I even read on my laptop. "Going on the computer just to read." said me. I feel your pain...or pleasure if that's the case, in any case I know the feeling.

  • That's what happens when you get hooked on phonics.

    Listen Kid,
I read a book every single day now after i read " Jane Eyre" , regardless of size. I once read 8 books on a school day and I had such a fucking hangover! Don't worry kid, do what you love and love what you do. Reading is sexy!!! Mr. Rochester is sexy!!!! WOOOOOHHH!!!!!

It's normal and a wonderful sight in these modern times.

I used to read almost none stop, but then I started to integrate technology more into my life and I didn't have much time for books.

Now, I've been trying to read whenever I can. It's amazing the worlds that can be explored when you turn the pages of a book.

I'm like this with books . My friends don't think it normal but I don't watch tv or movies or read movie , fashion or gossip mags . If you add up all the time in a day they spend doing that and compare it to how much time I read it comes out about the same . If you don't spend anytime with other people just reading all the time that could be a problem. See if there are any book groups around and find others that love books and make new friends this way and share your love of books.

Because I work now. And I also go to school. I soend most of my day doing things so I rarely have time aside from sleep.
