Is it normal to believe a different religion then your family?

My whole family is baptist, and I have been raised in a Christian church. I don't feel as enthusiastic as they do about their beliefs. The only reason why I like going to church sometimes is for friends. Sometimes I do want to learn, but most of the time I could care less. I believe God exists but I'm not devoted or anything.

You don't have to join any particular denomination/"club" to believe that a higher power exists. Forget about labeling yourself as baptist, protestant, whatever. Believe what feels true. Maybe explore Buddhism.. or Hinduism.

Do some Yoga or meditate, and the answers will come to you.

It's very common for people in their late teens / 20s to lose interest in religion. Most of them come back to church later in life.

If you are losing interest and wish you weren't, you might want to try out a more progressive church.

Or he could just say screw religion and still believe in a god if he wants to. Religions just a business now where I live, they advertise churches on billboards and try to sucker you in so they can get the free handouts.

Yeah, there's better churches but it doesn't make the situation better.

If you don't feel as though you belong to an established religion but you still believe in a supernatural being (ie God), then you're a Deist. Normal, as far as spirituality goes.

I admit that I don't know whether God exists and I doubt any miracles happened. But I still go to church because it's a nice community of people that are supportive of each other and work together for good causes.

No one mentioned political alignment. The OP didn't even say he/she was American. Furthermore what's up with using "Democrat" or "Republican" as an insult? This is seems highly counter-productive to proper political debate.
